It’s a Dog’s life…by Maxx November 2011
I admit, I tend to exaggerate as bit about MY tail…er, tale telling. This story, however, is totally uncensored. I’m calling it “It’s all part of my Rock and Roll Dream/ Nightmare”. It began as any other day. HE and I got into the Jeep for a ride. I don’t care where we are going, I just like to smell the world go by. HE is pretty distracted during Harvest and that day was no exception. The Jeep wouldn’t start soHE slammed out of the vehicle; swear words drifting in the air behind HIM. Evidently, HE forgot to set the brake because while the Jeep couldn’t start it could ROLL. BACKWARDS!!!
I thought to MYSELF; time to learn how to drive. (After all, THEY call ME Maxx-1-in-a-million but I think of MYSELF as Wonder Maxx.) I jumped into the driver’s seat from MY normal shotgun position. I found out two things really fast; steering and braking at the same time is not really possible for a dog. As the Jeep gained momentum going downhill, through the parking lot, across the road and finally slammed up against the rock wall, I screamed. (Well, at least I’m saying I did, as after all, no one was there to prove ME wrong.) The wild roller coaster ride was over, or so I thought. As I cautiously peered out the back window, I saw to MY horror that the back end was 5 feet off of the ground, the two front tires against the rocks saving ME from disaster. The Jeep began rocking and rolling as I crept into the floorboard. HE finally came out of the winery screaming “Maxx, where are you?” I barked back, “I’M in here, you big Dummy and I’M not coming out until this rig is on terra firma”. (I learned this expression from the crew, and, loosely translated, Ithink means “until all four tires are on the ground.”)DUMMY ran to get the tractor, tied a rope to the tractor and the Jeep and pulled. No movement. DUMMY started pulling out rocks and tried again. And failed again. After a few more attempts, DUMMY finally got the Jeep on the ground. DUMMY opened the door and I gratefully put all four paws on the road.
When SHE found out what happened, well, third scream of the day. I’M now thinking of writing a tell all book about what really goes on around here. I’M going to title it MAXX, Her and DUMMY.
